Everyone loves gathering together at this time of year, so why not make the most of it and celebrate your wedding too?
Christmas is all about family and friends, and a Christmas theme at your wedding will guarantee a great, warming and welcoming atmosphere for all your guests to enjoy.
At Hemswell Court we love a Christmas wedding and we have only a few Christmas wedding dates for 2017 remaining and limited Christmas dates for 2018
Here are some of the reasons that we know it works so well.
A beautiful scene is set
At Hemswell Court we think that at Christmas a beautifully decorated tree is an absolute must. So we have a stunning Christmas tree in the Grand Hall of Hemswell Court, it will be the first thing your guests see as they arrive. Along with the beautiful floral arrangement over the Grand Hall fireplace it sets the Christmas scene for your special day.
There is a stunning floral display over the Drawing Room fireplace, where you will hold your wedding ceremony. With all the candles lit and the firelight twinkling it creates the perfect backdrop to say “I do”.
The Primrose Room, with its glorious high ceiling has Christmas wreaths around the chandeliers, and the majestic fireplace is also dressed with a Christmas display. When the fire is lit for your guests sit down for the wedding breakfast the Christmas scene is set.
Eat, drink and be merry
Christmas is the best time of year to splash out on great food and drink.
For your reception drink, you could offer your guests Mulled Wine, Warm Winter Pimms or even Hot Chocolate (with a festive splash of Baileys or Rum for the grown-ups!) after your ceremony. This is perfect when accompanied by warm winter canapes – what a fabulous way to start the celebrations!
A version of Christmas dinner is a natural choice for your main meal. Most people love a festive feast and it doesn’t have to be turkey.
For dessert, the options are endless – Christmas pudding, mince pies, Yule log, trifle… it makes your mouths water just thinking about it!
Make things go with a bang!
For favours it can be best to keep it simple and just put a Christmas cracker at everyone’s place – you could even personalise them beforehand ( if you have time), so that they double as a place name.
When evening draws in why not take advantage of the dark nights as the back drop for a spectacular fire work display.
Christmas is for children
Keeping little ones occupied at a wedding will make their parents eternally grateful to you, and a Christmas theme gives you some ready-made ideas. First off, you could have Father Christmas for a visit (maybe before the wedding breakfast whilst the adults are enjoying drinks and canapés). Then you can give the children Christmas gifts to play with throughout the meal. Its a great idea to have a chill-out room and play Christmas-themed DVDs – we’re thinking Polar Express, The Snowman, and The Grinch. This will leave you and your grown-up guests free to enjoy your amazing wedding day!
A word of warning though before we go… when you book your wedding make sure you get those save the dates out super quick, you could even send Christmas cards to start the theme off! This will avoid any clashes of commitments for your guests over the festive period.
